IC INFORMATION
Name: Dante
Canon: Limbus Company
Age: Adult (headcanon: 35, based on their literary inspiration)
Gender: Referred to with they/them pronouns
Species: As far as we know they're human. Just have a particularly fancy prosthetic head.
Appearance: Link
Canon point: Post Intervallo V-2, Nocturnal Sweeping
History: Link to the wiki, starting with the prologue for summaries of the different Cantos and Intervallos. Dante's character page can be found here. Dante's page is mostly accurate, though there are some interpretations of them in there I disagree with (I personally think Dante's relationship with reviving the Sinners is way more complicated than simply "preferring not to do it," for one). I can go into that further if you need me to.
Personality answers:
What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?
Dante doesn't particularly care one way or another when it comes to other people's appearances, but they have a rather complicated relationship with their own.
While prosthetic heads aren't unheard of in the City, their head's design is particularly unique. It has no mouth, no eyes, no voice module, and no breathing apparatus, meaning that Dante cannot eat or drink, speaks only in clock noises (that only a dozen people can normally understand), doesn't sleep, and doesn't breathe. With their memory gone, they also have no memory of being able to do any of these things, and so they frequently can't relate with those who can.
This otherness frequently leads to them being ignored and objectified by others and often to them objectifying themselves, placing more importance on their clock head than on themself as a person.
It should be noted that even in art where they're wearing something other than their work uniform (on right in picture), Dante remains clothed from the neck down (wearing their button-up shirt beneath the patterned one) and keeps their gloves on. While it may be just another method of keeping their pre-amnesia identity a secret, I personally interpret it as another way their discomfort with their current clock-headed situation displays itself.
What is your character most afraid of?
Their coworkers in the Limbus Company Bus Department not being nearly as close with one another and Dante as Dante believes they are. And, to a lesser extent, what will happen at the end of their mission to find the Golden Boughs, when everyone has to go their own way. With no memories of their own prior to being saved in the forest, Dante's time with Limbus Company is all they know, and the LCB is the closest thing they have to both friends and family.
What is there for them if the Sinners are gone? As someone who has only held the role of "the Manager," who is Dante when there's no one to manage? They have no answer to those questions and no memories to fall back on.
This frequently leaves them sensitive to any disputes within the group, as well as being quick to assume that someone is about to leave. Thus they're quick to try and smooth over and rugsweep situations that might lead to conflict or discomfort even if they might personally be uncomfortable with what's happening as well.
What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?
Dante would say that their best trait is their willingness to learn. While they're rarely 100% sure in themselves at any juncture, they've come a long way from their first few days as the Limbus Company Bus Department's manager. They absorb information about the City they've forgotten like a sponge, keep an eye out for new battle strategies... anything they can think of to improve. And as long as they're improving... Well, that's good, isn't it? It means they won't be clueless forever.
I, however, would say Dante's best trait is their (mental) endurance and adaptability (when you get down to it, it's right there in the name of the man they're based off of). They may waver and worry and occasionally stumble, but Dante will always adapt and push themself back to their feet in the end, for better or worse.
What is justice to your character? How important is it to them?
Dante has little idea what justice is and isn't even wholly certain it exists. It appears to be tied to ideas of good and evil: people who fight for the sake of others, the kind being rewarded and the cruel being punished, being selfless and noble in one's desires--things that seem almost absurd to pursue in the world they live in. Naive even, when there are so many people out there who are willing to take advantage of others.
At least, that's how their logical mind sees it. Truthfully, they want there to be some justice in the world--some sense of kindness--and they're somewhat disturbed by the cold, overly transactional nature of the City, finding it unnatural. They don't consider themselves someone with the confidence or the drive to pursue that justice themselves, but they hold a healthy respect for those with the willpower to try and keep trying, even if they might fail in the end.
Inventory: Just their work outfit!
Powers/Abilities:
Dante is, for the most part, a human with a regular human body (head aside) and human limitations. They are a noncombatant with very little combat training, and while they'd probably know where they SHOULD hit if a weapon was shoved into their hands, they'd be hard pressed to actually land anything. Instead, Dante's skills land solely in the realm of support.
The majority of Dante's more supernatural powers come from the piece of Golden Bough in their head. Many of these powers are either out of their control or have an effect that's limited to the 12 people from their canon they are contracted with. Abilities limited to the 12 Sinners (said contracted characters) will be marked with ✦ and abilities that they cannot control at-will will be marked with ⦿.
STRATEGIST: Dante is the one canonically giving orders through the course of Limbus Company, both in battle and when navigating through dangerous territory. While they're no once-in-a-lifetime genius, it can be said that they have a good eye for knowing how to make use of others' talents and exploiting weaknesses and strengths in battle.
TURNING THE CLOCK ✦: Dante is capable of "rewinding" the deaths of the Sinners of Limbus Company, effectively reviving them at the cost of feeling all pain involved with those deaths. It does take them some time to turn the clock, and they are vulnerable during this time. The Sinners do not need to be dead for Dante to reverse their injuries.
IMMUNITY TO MEMORY ALTERATION: At least they appear to be so! Events that would have altered their memory haven't stuck since they got the clock.
CONNECTION TO THE PSYCHE OF OTHERS ⦿: The Golden Bough allows for Dante to peer into the minds and thoughts of others, witnessing and/or projecting the memories of others nearby. They can also facilitate the appearance of an entrance to the Fathoms of the Ego (essentially a dungeon based around a person's mental state and/or memories). OOCly, this power will ONLY be used with the permission of the other person.
On a similar note, Dante can sense entities/abilities fueled by emotion/the human subconscious (extrapolated from their ability to sense Abnormalities, Peccatula, and Distortions, and how they can differentiate them from Bloodfiends and humans.)
DURANTE ✦: A set of abilities Dante has unlocked as the story has progressed, currently limited to Pigritia and Superbia. Pigritia slows time in an area around Dante, leaving only them and the Sinners unaffected. This doesn't appear to be something that can be used indefinitely, as another character states that it was only used for around 30 minutes in-story.
Superbia allows someone to strike with or clash with a greater force than they might otherwise have (or at least that's how I'm interpreting this ability given how it's used at the end of Canto VII).
In order to fit with the once-a-day nature of Durante abilities in-game, I'm going to say that these take a similar amount of time to be used again in RP, and Dante will only be able to use one (AKA: Pigritia OR Superbia, but not both).

Goals: I am way too excited about getting to use monster transformation as a method of character exploration and development for Dante. From their struggles with identity bumping against the existence of a second soul within them to their already complicated relationship with their appearance, this sort of premise is a good way to drag up all of Dante's issues and see how they'll manage to navigate through it all.
Soul Choice: Spectral, heavily inspired by a Will-o'-the-Wisp! Given Dante's whole thing in canon is to help lead people back to the paths they should walk and find a path forward for themselves, it seemed fitting to go for a creature that frequently does the exact opposite of that.
